Cost Analysis

Assisted a large third party transaction processor in developing an activity-based cost accounting process, which can be used to measure the profitability of organizational units, products, and major customers. Development of unit costs enabled the client to implement a new pricing strategy for negotiating contract terms and prices for customized service.
Assisted a major banking organization to develop unit costs for processing services and to evaluate performance of its card portfolio. Steps included detailed evaluation of all processing departments, allocation of shared costs, design of reporting mechanisms, and development of internal and external cost data for pricing.
Analyzed aspects of issuing a purchasing card product for an international card association. Provided an update on the competitiveness of the client association's international interchange and cash advance fees. Performed an assessment of all major card-issuing departments to evaluate cost reduction opportunities. Primary focus was on credit, collection, and customer service. Study included an identification of opportunities to significantly reduce costs and improve customer service.
Conducted a study of 60 issuing and acquiring members in the European market for card issuing and acquiring costs. The study included collecting data against activity based models and a full audit trial of the data collected by members.
Conducted a study for a major Scandinavian bank of its card payments system operational costs using EDC's credit card issuing and card acquiring activity based costing models that enabled the bank to review and adjust its management information to provide improvement measurements of profitability and contribution of card based payment products. It also included a review of the efficiency of in-house processing versus the previous organizational structure where an outsourced service provider was used.
